NovoRapid FlexPen is the brand name for Novo Nordisk's fast-acting type of Human Insulin Aspart.

When NovoRapid is injected, it is extremely fast-acting, and works rapidly to normalize blood sugar levels. NovoRapid FlexPen typically begins working after 10-20 minutes, and will last for between 3 and 5 hours. Due to this short action NovoRapid should normally be taken in combination with intermediate-acting or long-acting insulin preparations. NovoRapid FlexPen may be injected before a meal and sometimes immediately after, to ensure strict control of post-prandial levels.

NovoRapid FlexPen is a modern insulin (insulin analogue ) with a rapid-acting effect. Modern insulins are improved versions of human insulin. NovoRapid FlexPen is used to treat diabetes mellitus in adults, children and adolescents aged 2 to 17 years.

Make sure you get the colour coded NovoRapid FlexPen that your doctor and nurse have told you to use and follow their advice carefully. If your doctor has switched you from one type or brand of insulin to another, your dose may have to be adjusted by your doctor. Do not change your insulin unless your doctor tells you to. Eat a meal or snack containing carbohydrates within 10 minutes of the injection to avoid hypoglycaemia. When necessary, NovoRapid FlexPen may be given soon after the meal, instead of before the meal.

Side effects: redness, itching, or swelling at the site of the injection, swelling around ankles and other joints, vision changes. Although most of these side effects listed below don't happen very often, they could lead to serious problems if you do not check with your doctor or seek medical attention.
